Skin Aging

Your skin gradually changes as you age.

The inner layer of skin (the dermis) starts to thin and fat cells beneath the dermis begin to shrink.

The ability of the skin to repair itself decreases with age. Thinning skin is prone to injuries/damage and wounds heal slower.

The support structure (deeper layer of the skin) for the surface skin layers gradually loosens and unravels. As a result, skin starts to lose its elasticity and sags, forming wrinkles on forehead. Gravity causes skin and tissues to sag, forming jowls and drooping eyelids.

Glands that secrete oil shrink, decreasing the skin's natural moisturizer. Skin starts to become dry and scaly.

Frown lines (between the eyebrows) and crow's feet (lines that spread from the corners of the eyes) develop because of repetitive muscle contractions during facial expressions
